Hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. By the time this is published we’ll all be back in full swing. Rockyview Ramblers again has the privilege of dancing to the delightful beat of Roger & Paulette Vipond’s music.
Just to reflect: Thanks to everyone who came out to our Mother of the Year Dance. Special Thanks to Myrna & Ted Kornak, Mary Milton and Arthur Westlake for calling a tip during Roger & Paulette’s lively dance program. Congratulations to Anna Reinwald (Strathmore Wheatland Whirlers) who won the Mother of the Year Award; Brenda Ross, first runner up and Joan Westlake, second runner up.
We enjoyed two events hosted by Jim and Shirley Minty. First the Wheatland Whirlers windup Picnic in May and then the C&D Picnic in June. Thanks for inviting us.
Stampede found several of our members selling tickets for Kinsmen Wheels. Thanks to Wayne and Doreen Stretch, Shirley Soyland and Ray Mulvihill for dedicating your time in this fund raising endeavor for our Club.
The Club held its first function in our new “summer home” at the Jones farm. Thanks to Gerry Hand who designed and built this dance facility and to Ron Parry, his ace assistant. Also to all Club members who contributed materials and furnishings. On this occasion, Society certificates were presented to Gwen and Cliff Willmott in celebration of their 25th Anniversary and Gwen’s 75th Birthday.
In August, we held a weekend Refresher Course to learn some basic round dance moves and to encourage previous members contemplating a return to dancing after several years respite.
Our members enjoyed the New Dancer Party at the Kerby Centre on August 20th hosted by C&D. Hats off to John and Jean Myers for an excellent effort in promoting our activity these past few months. Our club is geared up to do our part in achieving the C&D Challenge – to attract 100 new dancers this season. Ads were running in all Airdrie and surrounding communities newspapers since August 28th. By the time this is published, we will have held our September 16 Pre-Season Pot Luck and Dance. 50 invitations were sent out to potential new dancers and previous members. We’ll report the results in the next issue.
Thanks to our members who continued their positions on the Executive, those who took on new or added responsibilities, those who have completed their terms, and those who have taken a position for the first time.
Jean and Dave Anderson our new Vice President couple, have scheduled most of the visitations with other clubs. We really value the friendships generated by these exchange visits.
Our doors are always open – you’re welcome to join us any Friday evening.
