Rockyview Ramblers News April 2006

As we prepare to wind down another great dance season, we would like to thank all the clubs we visited for their hospitality and all those who attended return visitations. We truly value the friendships created by these exchange visits.

Our Mother of The Year Dance is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th. Hope to see many of you out for this.

Community involvement included our annual dance for the Seniors at the Bethany Care Centre in January and the students at RJ Hawkey Elementary School in March. Our new dancers have discovered, with great pleasure, a new way to expand their dancing experience: New Dancer Jamborees – from the Calgary Callers Jamboree, to Three Hills, Drumheller and, of course, the Jamboree hosted by our Club. Speaking of which, we had guests from Drumheller, Olds, Red Deer and Strathmore. A special thanks to Ted Kornak (C&D) for sharing your caller talents with us. And a special thanks to the Swinging Singles club who made up 39% of the attendance at this function. We really appreciate your continuous support. Sincere apologies to our own club members and the dance community at large for selecting the Family day weekend to hold this function – we will change our timing of this even in future years.

At our Annual Meeting last fall, we presented a challenge to increase our membership by two squares this dance season, either with new or returning dancers and we are proud to report “Mission Accomplished”. We started the season with 17 new dancers – thanks to the guidance and TLC provided by Roger and Paulette, we look forward to Graduation Night when we welcome 7 new dancers to our membership (with the possibility of another 4, depending on how successful these “Snowbirds” were with finding lessons down South). Two couples who were unable to complete the lessons this season have indicated they would like to resume lessons in the fall.

We are delighted to welcome back 10 previous members, returning after a year or more respite: Jean and Dave, Gwen and Steve, Claire and Ray, Brenda and Andrew and Dorothy May and Bill.

Thanks to all our regular members and the Club’s Executive for a job well done – everyone has worked hard to achieve our Mission: Like Airdrie, The “Friendly City”, to achieve a Reputation for being a Friendly, Fun-filled dance club.

Our Doors are always open – you’re welcome to join us any Friday evening.

Have a great summer.
